BBC Children in Need “Summer Stars”

We are extremely pleased to let you all know that MMWF has received funding from the BBC Children in Need, to carry out a new exciting project titled “’Summer Stars’” that is aimed specifically at the children of our community (5-15 years old).

The focus of week one will be healthy living, and the children will access sessions of sport and physical activity at our centre, including team games such as five-a-side football, rounders etc. and other physically challenging activities including trampolining and indoor assault courses.

Week two will offer a series of arts activity sessions (drawing, painting, collage etc.) as well as an art competition for the children. Weeks 3 & 4 will have culture and heritage as a theme – after inspiring the children with special drama coaching lessons and visits to local theatres, we will then support them to develop and perform their own production for the local community, comprising elements such as dance, singing and poetry.

Throughout the 4 weeks we will hold ‘healthy eating lunchtimes’, where children (and parents) can learn about and make healthy snacks such as fruit smoothies, fruit salads, healthy pizza etc.
