In general, in developing or underdeveloped countries, community’s and poor people’s access to suitable healthcare facilities and disability support is very limited. Unfortunately, countries like Bangladesh, where disable persons are considered as a burden on the family or on the community and no or very limited facilities, infrastructure and services are available to them. It results in low morale of the disabled community members and they become withdrawn and isolated from the mainstream community.
Healthcare and Disability Support covers many aspects of helping others succeed and rise out of the poverty. In many cases, it is necessary to let the people know what help is already out there and if there is lack of support in aspects of the community, we help establish it. Food, medical care, and social interaction opportunities are all part of helping people stay healthy and available for opportunities that they may never have imagined possible.
It is difficult to feel hopeful if you are ill or disabled. MMWF works to ensure that people have access to decent healthcare and disabilities services. If a person has had past injuries and needs something as simple as a walking stick, wheelchair, getting him or her that can make a huge difference not just on mobility but their outlook. If one small vial of medicine can heal a person from an illness that is keeping them down, it is important they receive it.
Availability of fresh healthy food is always an issue for the poor and disadvantaged and is an important part of people staying healthy. It is not enough to get rid of an illness, we work to ensure they can have a healthy enough diet that they can avoid further issues in the future. MMWF also promotes healthy living and organizes activities in UK and Bangladesh.
Social isolation is a serious problem in working situation. It is challenging to feel well, eat well, or advance in any way when you feel a deep loneliness. Finding places for the disadvantaged to go and have companionship also opens opportunities, otherwise they may not have known about them. MMWF is committed to providing all the health care and support we can. It is a pillar on which we are founded and part of how we can serve humanity.
“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” (Mahatma Gandhi)
