Celebration Experience in our Community
Building the communities of the future now
A fantastic resource every community has is the older generation. Indeed in many instances they hold the cultural knowledge so important in keeping a cultural identity.
However, more than most, older people can very quickly become isolated and vulnerable.
For older people, barriers such as language are a much bigger issue as the ability and motivation to learn a new language may not be as important later in life. It is incredibly easy for a simple issue such as illness or bereavement to put an older member of the community on a downward spiral of isolation.
MMWF sees the older people within our community as an important reference point. They are the keepers of our cultural identities. MMWF works hard to ensure this valuable resource is not lost to the Bangladeshi or Somali communities of East London.
- Work with other agencies to identify vulnerable older people.
- Provide events and activities to bring older members of our community together.
- Work through projects such as the Lunch Club to provide regular social interaction.
